The first referrals from the State Police regarding double parking as a criminal offense are being dismissed by the prosecution offices.

Prosecutors apparently disagree with the approach that double parking should be prosecuted criminally in addition to the administrative measure against the driver.

The Saranda Prosecutor's Office told Euronews Albania that for two citizens reported by the police for "obstructing the movement of means of transport", it has been decided not to initiate proceedings, including in the case where the passage of a bus with tourists was prevented.

The Vlora Prosecutor's Office is still in the verification phase of the case where a fire truck was blocked from passing in Himara due to incorrect parking.

The Tirana and Lezha Prosecutor's Offices have received 70 police referrals, but it is officially announced that the prosecutors have not yet made a decision to not initiate or register proceedings.

A few weeks ago, the Director General of the State Police, Ilir Proda, ordered his subordinates to refer drivers of vehicles that obstruct traffic to the prosecutor's office under Article 293 of the Criminal Code.

Over 100 drivers have so far been reported to the Prosecutor's Office in addition to the administrative measure of 20 thousand lek.
