Ermal Beqiri was arrested by French police after flying over a nuclear power plant in Normandy, France, at an altitude lower than the permitted limit.
The suspect's profile, questioned by investigators, raised many questions, writes the French newspaper La Journal de Dimanche .
French media reveal that during Ermal Beqiri's physical search, law enforcement found three AirTag devices hidden in his clothes.
These small GPS devices, manufactured by Apple, are used to locate and track objects or people who carry them.
When questioned, he told investigators that he was talking on the phone with his mother at the moment he passed over the nuclear power plant.
French media writes that the Albanian citizen was sentenced in an expedited procedure to a fine of 7,000 euros for a prohibited flight.
He was then handed over to the Central Office for the Fight against Organized Crime and is expected to be extradited to Albania after that.
It is worth noting that in May 2025, Ermal Beqiri published a photo on social networks where he appeared together with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The Special Court has sentenced Ermal Beqiri in absentia to prison as part of the investigation into abuses with multi-million euro tenders of AKSH, the National Agency for the Information Society.
Beqiri is suspected by the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) of being the head of a structured criminal group that manipulated the tender procedures of the National Academy of Sciences and Arts. This file also includes the former director of this institution, Mirlinda Karçanaj, and other individuals.
Ermal Beqiri's main companies, " Soft & Solution" and "Horizon ", were placed under preventive seizure by the Special Court , but despite being wanted for months, his companies have continued to benefit from public contracts.
