Medical students have addressed the Ombudsman with a request following the government decision that obliges them to work for five years in Albania, before they have the opportunity to leave the country.
The request to the Ombudsperson, Erinda Ballanca, was made by the representatives of medical students: Dea Guri, Eliot Sulçaj, Mikel Seferi, Arbëri Shehu, Zino Veleshnja.
Earlier the students had sought the support of the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, asking him for the non-discretion of the law.
They expressed that the law "on the special treatment of students who attend the integrated study program of the second cycle of General Medicine in public higher education institutions" violated their rights and freedoms as students, future doctors and citizens.
The law was passed at the last parliamentary session on 21 July 2023 with 71 votes in favour, 23 against and no abstentions.
