The situation in the Middle East escalates again, the US strikes Iranian targets

The situation in the Middle East has escalated again, after US armed forces launched attacks on Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz area in the early hours of Sunday, for the second day in a row.

A short time later, sirens rang out in Bahrain and Kuwait after an Iranian missile and drone attack. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had struck US military installations in retaliation for new US attacks on Iran.

According to the Revolutionary Guards, eight important facilities of the US armed forces have been destroyed at the Ali Al Salem base in Kuwait and at the US Fifth Fleet base in Port Salman, Bahrain.

Meanwhile, US warplanes struck Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communications systems, air defense positions, as well as drone and naval mine storage facilities. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes were carried out in response to Saturday morning's Iranian attack on a commercial tanker.

Explosions were reported in the Sirik area of southern Iran, with Iranian state television (IRIB) reporting that a telecommunications tower had been hit, citing an Iranian military official. Shells were also reported to have hit a village on Qeshm Island, with no immediate reports of casualties.

There were also reports of explosions in Bandar Abbas and on Qeshm Island, near the Strait of Hormuz.

Two to three hours later, sirens sounded in Bahrain and Kuwait as the armed forces of both countries announced they had repelled an Iranian attack with missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

It was initially unclear what the targets of the Iranian missiles and drones were, as well as whether there were any damage or casualties.

"The violation of the ceasefire violates Article 1 of Islamabad's Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and will lead to the complete cessation of all diplomatic processes," the Revolutionary Guards said in a statement, according to the Press TV network.

"Any hostile attack, regardless of justification, even if directed at insignificant targets, will receive a merciless response," the statement further emphasized.
