Italian MEP Ilaria Salis gave a speech during the 28th civic protest, where she expressed her support for the causes raised by the protesters and spoke about the protection of natural resources.

She stated that Albania, its land and natural beauties should not be treated as assets to be sold.

Salis began her speech with the message that "Europe is not in Brussels, but is here in Albania."

She stated that history is being made in Albania and is "an example that invites us to take our destinies into our own hands."

"Europe is not Brussels, but Europe is here in Albania. The people with their intelligence and their right to decide are rising up. Today, Albania, its land, its beauty are not a booty to be sold to the best seller.

"Sazani Island and Narta Lagoon must remain protected. These should not become playgrounds for the wealthy. This model must be opposed because it is based on corruption and the privileges and interests of the most powerful. This does not happen only in Albania, but also in Europe and the world."

Further, Salis highly praised the resistance of Albanian citizens, underlining that the message being conveyed from the boulevard in Tirana is crossing borders and serving as a lesson in dignity for all other peoples.

In her speech, she said that citizens are making history by showing a path made with courage, dignity and a collective community. According to the MEP, this is an excellent example of taking our destiny into our own hands and not allowing the oligarchy to decide the future of society.

"History is being made here, the path is being opened here for all peoples. An example that invites us to take our destinies into our own hands and not let the oligarchs decide for us. Albania is not for sale and Europe is not for sale," declared the MEP.
