The Head of the General Inspectorate, Dashnor Sula, has confirmed the taking of strong disciplinary measures against inspectors of the National Food Authority in Shkodra, following the scandal of corn contaminated with aflatoxin B1.

According to him, 10 inspectors have been dismissed from duty, while a total of 15 disciplinary measures have been issued, in one of the most serious cases recently found in the field of food safety.

The statements were made during a meeting that Sula held with the chief inspectors of the Korça region, where the focus was on strengthening market control and increasing the accountability of inspection structures. He stressed that the Shkodra case constitutes a clear signal to any inspector who neglects his duty, allowing dangerous products to enter the market.

"No, they are not out of order. There are problems without a doubt. I am on my 69th day at the head of the inspectorate and I would like to inform you that perhaps a decision two days ago, when the general inspectorate took the case of Shkodra, 15 disciplinary measures, 10 of which are dismissals from duty of inspectors, due to the entry of corn with aphotoxin B1, which is also harmful to animals. I have decided them and for every case of signaling we will punish them.

"Every administrative measure that is appealed by the entity has two options: either the measure imposed by the inspection remains in force or this measure is repealed, but with one condition: in case of injustice, an administrative measure is initiated against the inspector," Sula emphasized, while further adding that field inspections will be intensified and will be surprise, including both commercial entities and production lines.

Regarding the functioning of the inspectorates, the head of the institution admitted that there are problems, but rejected claims that they are out of order. According to him, the situation is being monitored and every reported case will be treated with maximum seriousness.
