NYT reveals details! Rama between the democratic establishment and American

The Democratic establishment descended on the Hamptons this weekend for a kind of royal political wedding that brought together the world of big-money politics and Clinton-era insiders.

The newlyweds were Alex Soros, the son of George Soros, the most generous supporters of the Democratic Party, and Huma Abedin, a political aide who has been described as almost a daughter of Hillary Clinton, the former first lady and secretary of state. Held Saturday at a Soros family property in Water Mill, N.Y., the wedding drew private jets and Clinton aides to a rare concentration of wealth and power, reports The New York Times.

Beyond the couple's families, the guest list included Mrs. Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton; former Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff; Senator Chuck Schumer and Representative Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic minority leaders from New York; former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi; celebrities like Nicky Hilton Rothschild; cultural figures such as Vogue editor Anna Wintour; early friends of Clinton such as San Francisco power broker Susie Tompkins Buell; and foreign personalities such as the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama.

The star formation was described by four people who were at the wedding, as well as several representatives of the participants. Representatives for the couple did not immediately respond to requests for comment to the NYT.

The Boyz II Men vocal group performed at the wedding, according to two of the attendees, and toast-held speakers included Mr. Soros's brother, Jonathan, Ms. Clinton, Mrs. Wintour and Mr. Rama. Dishes included truffled agnolotti, cold pea English soup, and an American Wagyu bavette and grilled shrimp.

The celebrations coincidentally coincided with an extremely chaotic weekend at home and abroad. Protesters gathered across the country to oppose President Trump even though he held an unusual military parade in Washington; a Minnesota lawmaker was killed in a new outbreak of political violence; and attacks between Israel and Iran raised fears of a wider fire in the Middle East.

Everything was much quieter in the Hamptons, as caravans of black SUVs transported wedding attendees through a narrow leafy alley and through a gate surrounded by purple flowers.

Mr. Soros is one of the most intriguing figures in the donor world. The holder of a doctorate degree in history, he has largely taken on the giving run for decades by his father, now 94, who has supported liberal causes around the world and has become a right-wing gangster. The younger Mr. Soros has called himself "more political" than his father.

Soros, 39, has also revealed that he feels comfortable in the spotlight and has posted forcefully on social media as he detailed his meetings with Democratic leaders. He has likely been a big part of the liberal philanthropy scene for decades, and many in progressive circles want to stick with him.

His romance with Mrs. Abedin, 49, has fascinated parts of high society. That's partly because her last marriage worsened in a spectacular way: her ex-husband, former rep. Anthony Weiner, was embroiled in numerous sexting scandals before she announced their split in 2016.

Mr. Soros and Mrs. Abedin announced their engagement last July. They originally planned to escape, Vogue reported on Saturday, but they changed their minds after an engagement party co-hosted by Ms. Simpson. Clinton in December, where participants pressured the couple to hold a more traditional party.

"I think she deserves it," Ms. Clinton magazine. "She deserves to have that kind of moment."

The weekend's celebrations included a smaller ceremony on Friday to honor as the Muslim faith of Ms. Abedin as well as Mr. Soros' Jewish heritage. A rabbi and an imam presided over the ceremony, according to people who were there.

In contrast to Mr. Soros, Mrs. Abedin has shown a desire for privacy. She started working for Mrs. Clinton as a 19-year-old intern while attending George Washington University and gradually stepped into more public-facing roles. She wrote a memoir in 2021 and is now an MSNBC contributor.

Now, her marriage to Mr. Soros will cement them as a political couple and they will continue to be in the public spotlight. / NYT
