
Following the resignation of Ermal Onuz, by order of the Minister of Interior, Simon Zereci , with the rank of Senior Leader and function of Deputy Director General of the Republic Guard, has been appointed to the position of Director General of the Republic Guard.
Simon Zereci has held the important position of Commander of the Special Unit in the Republican Guard since 2013.
Simon Zereci graduated from the "Skënderbej" military high school and then pursued higher studies at the Joint Officers' College, in the "All-Arms" specialty.
He began his military career in 1986 in the structures of the Ministry of Defense, initially as a Platoon Commander in the Zadrimë Military Department, then as Chief of Training and others. In 1988, he joined the Guard of the Republic, where he served in a number of functions, such as: Platoon Commander; Specialist for Physical Protection in the Directorate of Security of High State Personalities; Platoon Commander in the Operational Company; Deputy Commander of the Operational Company; Head of the escort group of the Minister of Public Order; Accompanying officer at the Office for the Protection of Personalities; Companion in the support group in the Branch for the Protection and Protection of High State Personalities; Group Commander in the Special Unit; and others.
During his long military career, he was distinguished for his dedication and high professionalism, even risking his life in the line of duty. In September 1998, he was wounded in the line of duty, while serving as Deputy Commander of the Operational Company.
Zereci has completed a series of trainings and qualifications at home and abroad in the field of security, such as: a course for the protection of personalities (VIP) in Egypt; training for the security of high-ranking state personalities with American instructors; an international security program developed by American security specialists; training in advanced self-defense techniques "Krav Maga Maor", and others.
In 2020, he received the rank of Colonel, which with the new rank system was converted to First Director. While the rank of Senior Director was granted to him when, by order of the Minister of Interior, he was appointed Deputy Director General of the Guard.
