The well-known doctor, Ilir Alimehmeti, has raised the alarm that air and water pollution in Tirana is bringing many diseases to the residents.
Speaking during a meeting where the head of the PD, Sali Berisha, was also present, the doctor said that the situation created is due to the mismanagement of the capital.
"Tirana is ranked 245th in the ranking of cities in the world, in terms of health indicators. We have 10,500 inhabitants per square kilometer. In unit 10, there are over 20,000, starting from 9 and 5. For comparison, in Delhi, India, there are 10,000, more or less the same as Tirana. London has 3 thousand.
What comes from overpopulation. We saw the infectious diseases ourselves. There comes air pollution, water pollution, urban waste and energy consumption. In terms of air pollution, we are in 243rd place, out of 245. Tumors, heart problems, brain problems, etc. come from the air. This starts from the city, from the city management.
Second, water. It is said that the water is drinkable, that's how it comes to our bill. But we have a court order that says it's drinkable. Most of us buy it, who can afford it. Water also brings disease with it.
Urban waste. If we take a tour, we will see cauldrons either without lids or overflowing. These are foci of infection", said doctor Alimehmeti.
