Medicine in mourning for Edi Tushe! The doctor of thousands of babies lived with the pain of missing his son for 22 years

Sad news has affected the medical community and thousands of Albanian families. Renowned neonatologist Dr. Edi Tushe, one of the most respected figures in Albanian medicine and one of the pioneers of neonatology services in the country, has passed away.

For decades, Dr. Edi Tushe has been close to generations of Albanian children and parents, becoming a beloved and trusted name in newborn care. With his professionalism, dedication, and humanity, he earned the respect of his colleagues and the gratitude of thousands of families.

In addition to his valuable contribution as a pediatrician and neonatologist, he played an important role in the establishment and development of the neonatology service in Albania. 

In October 2025, he recounted his life during a personal interview on "Galeri" with Edi Manushi.

The renowned pediatrician shared with the public the sad detail that he had not communicated with his son for 22 years.

"I have also tried to connect with my ex-wife's people, because I have a good relationship with them. He is in Canada. It is not easy to escape a certain indoctrination. All those who fled there with my son have cut all ties with Albania," Tushe said.

The pediatrician revealed that his son, Idlir, had once expressed a desire to follow his professional path.

"My son saw in Tirana how much we loved him. There is also a photo from my office and that's where he got the desire to continue medicine," he said, adding that he doesn't know how to explain the reason for the breakup.

At the end of the interview, Tushe conveyed a touching message to his son:

"He is my son. I would like to have him in my arms and for him to be happy, successful in life, to have fulfilled his dreams. That would be the only thing I would want for him. I myself have suffered, and suffering makes a person softer, sweeter, but sometimes even harsher. It depends on how you see life."
