The Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides details on the repatriation operation

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has provided details regarding the operation carried out to repatriate Eva Dumani, who had been staying in the Al-Hol camp in Syria for 12 years.

Through a response in X, the ministry announced that the operation was carried out in cooperation between Albanian institutions and international partners. The ministry says that the operation was extended in time.

Further, the ministry emphasizes its readiness "to respond in any case, to the needs or situations that affect Albanian citizens wherever they are."

" In response to media interest, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs informs that thanks to the coordination and cooperation between several institutions of the Albanian state, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the country's diplomatic representation in Turkey, the operation for the return to Albania of citizen ED, who had been in a camp in Syria for several years, has been successfully carried out.

The extended operation was made possible with the support of our partners, in particular with the contribution of the Turkish authorities, whom we thank for their cooperation in this sensitive case.

"MEPJ reconfirms its readiness and willingness to respond in any case, to the needs or situations that affect Albanian citizens wherever they are across the borders ," the ministry announced.

Eva Dumani arrived this morning, February 14, at Rinas Airport, after being transferred from Turkey. In a previous mission, the young woman had refused to leave the Syrian camp, while her brother Endri returned.

Eva and Endri Dumani were 8 and 6 years old, respectively, when their father kidnapped them and took them to Syria to join jihadists in the Islamic State. Their grandmother went there to retrieve the children after their father was killed, but she died imprisoned in the camp.
