The Constitutional Court announced this Wednesday the decision in the case of the country's former President, Ilir Meta, who had requested the annulment of the decisions of three other courts regarding the security measure "prison arrest".

Meta had also opposed the manner of execution of this measure.

According to the Constitutional Court, this claim was also presented in other judicial instances. The Court notes that Meta has filed a report for alleged arbitrary actions with the Tirana Prosecutor's Office and that this matter is currently under investigation. For this reason, by majority vote, the Court decided not to consider this part of the request, as the other courts have not yet expressed their views.

Regarding the security measure, the Constitutional Court concluded, again by a majority vote, that it was imposed for a legitimate purpose and is not disproportionate.

In conclusion, the Court decided to dismiss Ilir Meta's request.

The latter has reacted on Facebook regarding this decision.

"No surprises from the Lana Court! After dragging out the case for 6 months, beyond any reasonable deadline, with the intention of delaying our path to Strasbourg, today it showed once again that this Court does not know how to disappoint. I have expressed my assessment of it since March 2, 2020 when these people were sworn in at Lana. But at least they have a little dignity and do not delay the disclosure of their decision.

"Once again, I invite all media and journalists, on April 27, to the first session of the trial on the merits, and to all other sessions, where I will be face to face with the gang that kidnapped me in a bandit manner and where we will dismantle this disgusting farce of staged justice ," Meta writes.

On April 27, the Special Court will hold the first trial session for Meta, former MP Monika Kryemadhi and three other defendants involved in the same case. They are accused by SPAK of being involved in corruption, money laundering and failure to declare assets.
