The Special Court has accepted the request of Evis Berber and other defendants to have one of the criminal proceedings related to the ARA file tried in a summary procedure.
The request from Berberi and the other 20 defendants was made in the first session on the merits, while the only one who requested separation and was approved for a regular trial was businessman Valter Begaj.
Although SPAK had requested that the request for Evis Berberi, Erjon Lami and Brunilda Bulin Lami not be accepted, the black squads decided to approve it. The 21 defendants in the 'ARRSH' case are accused of violating equality in tenders, passive corruption, fraud with serious consequences and forgery of documents.
The former director of the Albanian Road Authority, Ervis Berberi, arrested in 2024, is suspected, according to SPAK, of being involved in corruption cases in 8 tenders worth around 15 million euros. Berberi was the de facto owner of the company “DAAM” shpk, to which he had awarded tenders while holding the positions of General Director for Energy Efficiency and ARA.
The arrest of Berber and the seizure of his cell phone led to other investigations by SPAK, including that against Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, who was charged with violating equality in tenders, and the mayor of Shkodra, Benet Beci, who is also on trial for the same charge.
