Isuf Hasa, who killed his neighbor, 81-year-old Xhemal Meta, with a hammer while stealing the money the elderly man had left in his pocket, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

According to the Tirana Court, the serving of this sentence should begin from the day of his arrest on 15.01.2025 and be carried out in a high-security prison.

The serious incident occurred on January 13, 2025, where Xhemal Meta was found dead in his apartment by another of his neighbors.

At that time, Isuf Hasa admitted to the crime, while indicating that the reason was, according to him, that the victim was harassing his wife.

The 64-year-old said that they first drank coffee at the 81-year-old's house, then they were going to the village bar, but as soon as they left, he said that he saw a hammer in the yard, which he picked up and shot.

He then says that after committing the crime, he took the money and went to the girl's house in Vora, where he hid the hammer.

"On January 13th, I went to Xhemal's house in the morning and we had coffee. After we finished, we were going to the village bar. In the yard of his house, I saw the hammer and I took it and shot him in the back. I shot him because he had been insulting me for a long time. I had realized that he was harassing my wife.

"I work as a night watchman in Dajt and there were times I didn't go home for several nights. Xhemali would call me and say, 'How come you didn't give us your wife's brandy once?' I couldn't stand him for a while. After I killed him, I took the money. I knew he had money because he himself had told me. Then I went to the power station and drove to Tirana in one of their cars. Then I went to the girl's house in Vora where I hid the hammer ," Isuf Hasa said.

Xhemal Meta, 81, left his apartment in Zall-Bastar on Monday, as he does every day, to drink coffee at the neighborhood bar. But a few hours later, he was found lifeless in the yard of his apartment.

Family members suspected that he had fallen and hit his head on a rock. The incident was ruled an accident, but when the body was delivered to the Tirana morgue, the coroner determined that the wound on the back of the head was not accidental, but caused by a sharp object. The police remained silent for two days, allowing dozens of people to be escorted to the area.

The victim's family members have provided some interesting details to the police, noting that the elderly man was carrying money with him, which in fact turned out to be true. A physical examination of the victim revealed that he did not have any money with him, not even his wallet, which has led the investigation team to suspect that the elderly man was killed to get the money.

After a series of intensive investigations, where special methods were also used, the police intervened by conducting house searches and it turned out that Isuf Hasa, his neighbor, also an elderly man, 64 years old, the police say, had hidden the amount of 200 thousand lek in his socks, an amount that he allegedly took from the victim after hitting him with a hammer.
