The Minister of Justice,  Ulsi Manja , at the second roundtable being held to present the draft of the new Criminal Code, stated that 25 public consultation rounds are planned and are expected to start in mid-September.

He has assured that the new Criminal Code will not be approved unless it receives the green light from Brussels, given that our country's goal is to join the EU by 2030.

"In mid-September, the draft will be subject to public consultation, where it is intended to have 25 rounds. I want to confirm my position as Minister, D and the government, Albania will have a new Code only after a process of extensive internal consultations and only after it receives the seal in Brussels because it has the golden goal of EU membership by 2030. This code will be equivalent to those of the EU," he said.

Manja added that by October, it is expected that several directives will be reflected in the current Criminal Code.

"Albania is required to reflect 6 directives within October that deal with money laundering, terrorist financing, review of the legal framework for terrorism, drug trafficking, human trafficking, sexual abuse and child sexual abuse, weapons and defamation," he said.
