Anti-defamation law/ Rama: Journalists attack politicians, who also have
Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke this Tuesday about the freedom of the press in the country, at a round table that focused on the Media Forum for Southeast Europe. The head of government began his speech with his solidarity with every journalist threatened and attacked, as an unacceptable act against free speech.

"For many reasons, journalism has become a very big mix of truth and lies, that's a fact. Of course, every attack, every threat against journalists, there is no question that it is something disgusting, but how many attacks do journalists make every day against people. I know that politicians are not human, but still, there is some human part in every politician, so, not a lot, but a dose", he said.

Solidarity gave way to criticism, which Rama has not missed from time to time. Even at this roundtable, Rama emphasized that he is often abused and misinformed in the name of journalism.

"Politicians have families, children, and I completely agree and stand in solidarity with every journalist who is attacked and threatened. I wonder every time how often these organizations of journalists turn against themselves, against their category, against the individuals in their group who, in the name of being a journalist, allow themselves to do what was once absolutely outside by any stretch of the imagination," he said.

The draft law on fake news that raised a lot of controversy and was considered censorship, according to Rama, still remains a measure that should have been taken and follows it like a shadow. However, the created controversies forced the government to give up.
