"How does my Albanian unit differ from extremist groups?", Albanian

Avdyl Jashari, or Abu Katad Albani, from Skopje, North Macedonia, has been fighting in Syria against Bashar Al Assad for 12 years. The commander of the Albanian unit "Xhemati Alban", in an interview with A2 CNN, showed how his unit, made up of Albanians, differs from extremist groups.

"The military campaign that led to the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad was very quick and there is no explanation other than divine. After 12 years of sacrifices, the Syrian people were blessed with this quick and easy victory. Although there are voices that want to diminish this victory, attributing the victory to various states or interstate plans or agreements, the reality is that the victory came with the capabilities and capacities of the Syrian resistance ," said Abu Qatad Albani.

The commander also explained how the military unit he leads is composed and the ideology to which they belong: "We were about 40 Albanians from all Albanian lands, but also from the diaspora. We are not represented by a certain ideology. From extremist groups like ISIS, which have represented Islam in its most extreme form, our group stands out because we wanted the mistakes that were made in the Iraqi resistance not to be repeated in the Syrian resistance. The primary thing for them was the destruction of the enemy and not the avoidance of civilian casualties. Whereas we have always been convinced that fighting near civilians should be avoided. This was the first rift between us."
