Violent Albanian gangs have compiled lists of high-end bikes worth thousands of pounds and are targeting riders in an affluent part of London.

A cyclist on a £15,000 Pinarello road bike near Regent's Park was attacked by robbers who arrived at the scene on a motorbike, who were heard saying: " That's on the list ".

In recent months there have been a spate of robberies between 5am and 7am, targeting cyclists who use the park before cars are allowed.

Several British cycling organisations, including bike manufacturer Brompton, are preparing a letter to Sir Mark Rowley, the Metropolitan Police commissioner , calling for more officers to be deployed in the area.

The Times reports that the victims have been told by police that the attacks are being carried out by an Albanian gang that is sending the weapons to Russia amid sanctions imposed on the country following Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

A number of British cycling organisations, including bike manufacturer Brompton, are understood to be preparing to write to Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley in a bid to have more officers patrolling the area.

The Regent's Park Cyclists group said more than 30 clubs, which are made up of more than 5,000 members, have been directed to increase safety in the area.

Sean Epstein, chairman of the Regent's Park Cyclists group, told MailOnline: “ The attackers are really out there looking for people. They don't have license plates, they take the license plates off their bikes, they wear hoods. They are clearly defined in their role ."
