The Special Court has once again rejected the request of former head of the Albanian Anti-Corruption Agency (ARRSH) Evis Berberi and his associate Valter Begaj for a replacement of the security measure.
The GJKKO decided to continue the measure of "prison arrest" for both of them.
The former head of the Albanian Anti-Corruption Agency (ARRSH) has been held in a detention cell since March 16, 2024. Valter Begaj and Ervis Lami were also placed in handcuffs with him.
The latter was released a short time ago by the first instance, but the Special Appeal returned him to the cell, after the Special Prosecution appealed the decision of the GJKKO.
The prosecution's investigations revealed that Berberi, during his time as head of the Energy Efficiency Agency and also head of the ARRSH, awarded six tenders for his partner Valter Begaj's company and then the profits were transferred to the company he indirectly owned.
The two businessmen Lami and Begaj are suspected of having, in collaboration with Berber, made fictitious sales of the company of the former head of the ARRSH and other fictitious actions, making it difficult to conceal the criminal offense of corruption.
SPAK's investigation shows that the benefit was around 2.2 million euros that were invested by the company "DAAM" shpk, in real estate.
