Four dead in the first days of 2023/ Balluku blames drivers for the Arbri road:

The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku , has answered the question of journalists in a media conference regarding the opening of segments on this road axis where work is still being done.

Question: Why did you open the segment without finishing it yet ?

Balluku : The accident you refer to is not related to the part where work is being done on Arbri Street. The accident happened in the area of Gjorica, it is a road that has been completed for a long time. As I said, it is better not to jump to conclusions as long as there is a police investigation, it has been identified from the beginning that the vehicles were at high speed, it is not related to Arbri Street .

Opening completed segments is a practice that has always happened and we have no reason to question that way. There are areas which are blocked and all open segments meet road safety conditions. We have no plans to close Arbri Street.

4 people have lost their lives on the Arbri road so far for 2023:

Yllson Tasha , 24, did not manage to celebrate New Year's Eve with his family, as at around 21:35 on December 31, he collided with the road's protective barriers and ended up 25 meters into the abyss. The collision was fatal and the young man died on the spot.

The 24-year-old was returning from Bulqiza and as soon as he passed the roundabout at Ura e Čerenec, he lost control, crossing the protective barriers and after a few rotations, the "Fiat Panda" vehicle fell from a height of 25 m, ending up in Zallin e Bulqiza.

On January 4,  just 4 days after Tasha died, another serious accident occurred on the same axis. Kujtim and Murat Istrefi (brothers) and Kujtime Isftrefi lost their lives as a result of an accident involving two vehicles.

The event happened around 18:15 on the road axis Fushë Bulqizë-Shupenzë, in the place called "Ura e Gjorica". Four other people were injured.

The unfinished Arbri road has turned into a gangrene for drivers. Lack of signage, poor quality of works and substandard road guards are taking lives.

The construction of the 54 km road connecting Tirana with Dibra through a concession contract with the Gjoka Construction company began in 2018. The project envisages the construction of a two-lane road that passes through a series of 6 tunnels and two high bridges.

On August 2, 2021, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, announced the postponement by 17 months of the deadline for works on the Arbri Road, a concessionary project that will cost taxpayers about 40 billion Lek or 330 million euros.

According to Balluk, the reason for the postponement of the works in Qafë e Murriz is the geological problems. Meanwhile, the works on Arbri street are progressing at a very slow pace.

Scheduled to be delivered in April 2022, the Arbri Road contract is already expected to end in September 2023. But looking at the works on the ground, we hope not to have another postponement.
