A drone used to surveil the premises of Burrel prison has been seized by authorities.

The drone, according to a statement from the Directorate of Prisons, contained no illegal items, but was allegedly used to obtain footage from inside high-security prisons, with the purpose of gathering information about further illegal activities.

It is suspected that there is a criminal group behind this drone. Currently, the flying device will undergo typilloscopic expertise in order to identify papillar traces, and then computer expert to identify the IMEI number and any information administered by this device, the notice said.

The Albanian prison system, in close cooperation with the law enforcement bodies, has once again shown its full readiness and efficiency in preventing illegal activities of structured criminal groups. Recent attempts to use flying vehicles for illegal purposes have been neutralized in real time.

The system's operational intelligence has managed reliable data on a criminal group's plans to introduce prohibited items into the Burrel Criminal Decision Execution Institution. In response, immediate measures have been taken, using advanced digital technology, to prevent any attempts to achieve their criminal intentions.

The drone was not contained in prohibited items, but the investigation shows a tendency by criminal groups to obtain footage from inside high-security prisons, with the aim of gathering information about further illegal activity.

Currently, the flying device will undergo typilloscopic expertise in order to identify papillar traces, and then computer expert to identify the IMEI number and any information administered by this device. The first procedurale actions are being carried out, and relevant materials will be referred to the respective prosecution office.

In close cooperation with the prosecution, the State Police and other intelligent structures, intensive work is being done to document the event thoroughly and arrest the collaborators outside the prison regime.

The Albanian prison system remains committed to maintaining the order and security of its institutions, constantly improving safeguards and technology to cope with any potential threats.
