A serious incident occurred today in the infamous Koridhalos prison in Greece, where 49-year-old Albanian, Jani Aliaj, highly sought by the authorities of our country, was shot to death by a Greek convict.

It is learned that Aliaj's killer is the same person who executed 47-year-old Artur Bashimi from Gjirokastra on August 18, 2025. The murder at that time took place in Agio Pantaleimona, where Bashimi was executed with a firearm by a Greek.

While Greek media write that the murder of Jani Aliaj is suspected to have been ordered by another convict in Koridhalos prison. Kathimerini writes that a few months ago, with 10 Arab prisoners, he had an area of ??the prison under control and was looking for the Albanian Jani Aliaj.

Meanwhile, other Greek media write that it is suspected that the murder is part of the war that has erupted between rival Albanian mafia groups and that there may have been a "death contract" against the victim, as reported by in.gr.

48-year-old Jani Aliaj was arrested a year ago by Greek authorities with forged documents, after 9 years of his name being on Interpol's red list.

Aliaj is sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Elton Çiço, on May 1, 2016 in the former Blloku area.

The clash between them was early and had started in 2000.

At that time, Jani Aliaj stabbed and killed Elton Çiço's close friend. This murder paved the way for clashes between them. A few years later, they physically clashed in a prison in Greece where both were serving sentences for drug trafficking.

The clash led to Aliaj being stabbed by Elton Çiço. In 2015, Jani Aliaj escaped from prison in Greece.

On January 10, 2016, Aliaj fell victim to an assassination attempt organized by Çiço, but a bystander was injured by the barrage of bullets.

Also, on April 25 of the same year, in Gjirokastra, Aliaj fell victim to another assassination attempt, but managed to escape the bullets.

A few days later, on May 1, 2026, he killed Elton Çiço in the former Blloku area.

Dressed in sportswear and a hat, Aliaj entered the bar where Çiço was, along with several other people, and executed him with two bullets, leaving him dead on the spot. Even after this murder that shocked public opinion, Aliaj managed to escape.

He disappeared for 9 years until he was arrested on January 3, 2025, with false documents and a completely different appearance from the one he had in the Interpol photo.

The Albanian state had initiated the procedure for his extradition to Albania. Due to his life sentence for murder, as well as suspicions of wealth of unjustified origin, the Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime confiscated seven assets in 2023.
