Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi are no longer together. This is the sensational news given yesterday evening by the president of the Freedom Party.
After more than 25 years of marriage, the couple separates, as they had previously also separated politically.
They said 'Yes' to each other in October 1998 in the civil status office in the municipality of Tirana, headed at that time by the democrat Albert Brojka.
At that time, Meta was the former deputy prime minister of the socialist government of Pandeli Majko, while Kryemadhi was the president of FRESSH.
At the civil status ceremony, MP Erion Braçe, Meta's advisor, Mustafa Muçi and, surprisingly, the Swiss ambassador to Albania at that time were also present.
From acquaintance in FRESSH to marriage
The acquaintance between Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi started in the premises of the Socialist Party, where they stayed until the day of the establishment of the LSI. Kryemadhi has shown that her acquaintance with Ilir Meta started in 1993, when she was still 17 years old, while they would be connected a year later, and celebrated in 1998. It was not love at first sight, as Kryemadhi himself has confessed, since for a strong woman like her, Ilir Meta was a masculinist, and a young man who did not have his strongest point of being romantic.
"I was a little shy, but after the engagement, not anymore. At first I didn't like him, because he is a bit masculinist. It is not gentle, I say this in the context of a girl who dreams of Prince Charming. We met in November 1993, I was 17 years old, a year later we got married. When he brought me flowers, I stayed two weeks without sleep, due to the fact that he brought them to me", said Kryemadhi in an interview recently.
The years that followed showed that the life of Kryemadhi and Meta was marked to be together. Kryemadhi has often been behind her husband, since the founding of LSI in 2004, until she assumed her position at the head of the Party, after Meta was elected as president in 2017.
