The Council of Ministers decided on Wednesday to use the "government residence Villa 31", the former home of the dictator Enver Hoxha, for a cultural project.

According to the decision, some premises of this building will be used for the realization of the cultural project "Vila Art Rezidence Tirana".

The implementation of the project will be done by the Ministry of Culture, which will assume only the electricity and water supply fees, as well as the cost of maintenance and treatment of these premises throughout the period of commissioning.

The building is located in the center of Tirana in the neighborhood known as the former Block, where during the communist dictatorship 1944-1991 lived the families of the dome of one of the most savage regimes in the East. Hoxha ruled Albania with an iron hand until he died in 1985, while his successor, Ramiz Alia, was the last president to flee from power in all Eastern countries after the fall of the "Iron Curtain".

After 1991, the new addition to the building, which was built in 1973, was managed by the Directorate of Government Services and served for official reception and various activities. Its old part currently functions as a business, hotel and restaurant.
