The first preliminary hearing for former President Ilir Meta, his ex-wife, Monika Kryemadhi, and three others, will take place on September 25.

The GKKO set the date today when the file will be reviewed by Irena Gjoka.

Accused by the opposition, Gjoka has the power to determine whether to pass the file for trial, return it to SPAK, or discontinue the investigation.

The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime closed the investigation on August 29 and brought Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi to trial. They face three charges: passive corruption, money laundering, and failure to declare assets.

According to SPAK, after the investigations conducted, several corruption schemes and the use of political power were discovered.

Three other people have also been sent for trial.

Meanwhile, on September 8, the Special Court of Appeals rejected the request of Ilir Meta, who requested his release from prison.
