The President of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, has arrived in his native village, in Çepan, Skrapar, to bid his father, Rexhep Meta, farewell.

These are the moments when the Prisons Directorate van with Meta inside arrives in the village of Çepan in Skrapar, where the funeral ceremony is taking place.

Ilir Meta has received special permission from the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime to attend the funeral ceremony and receive condolences from family members. After nearly two years in detention, this is the first time he has left his cell, except for court appearances.

The former president was accompanied by forces from the Prisons Directorate during his movement towards Çepan, while the approved permit provides for his participation in the funeral ceremony and the lunch organized afterwards.

According to sources, after the ceremonies, Meta is expected to return to the detention facilities in accordance with the conditions of the permit granted. It is also expected that he will be released again the next day for a few hours, to participate in the condolence receptions that will take place in Tirana.

Rexhep Meta passed away a day ago at the age of 83. Friends and family gathered this Tuesday in Skrapar to say their final goodbyes to the father of former President Meta, who has been in prison since October 2024.
