A notary in Durrës, Mitri Prifti, who was identified by the police and then arrested in Italy, as the author of the wounding of Edison Begaj with a weapon, has been sentenced by the court of Vlora to 5 years of imprisonment.
The sentence was given only for the charge of "Possessing weapons without permission", where due to the shortened trial, the notary involved in this criminal event benefited from a reduction and the conversion of the prison with probation.
Ora News learns that the criminal case against the notary Prifti was initially referred by the police to the prosecutor's office, for the charge of "Premeditated murder" remaining in the attempt and "Possessing weapons without a permit", after the author shot 4 times in the direction of Begaj.
But during the investigations, the charges against him changed from "Premeditated murder" remaining in the attempt to "Intentional slight injury".
This charge was also dropped, as the injured Edison Begaj himself gave up and forgave Mitri for the gun attack.
Based on this situation, the Vlora court found him guilty and sentenced him to 5 years in prison, converting it to a probationary period for the notary of Durrës.
Mitri Prifti, a lawyer by profession and who exercised the function of a notary in Durrës, in May 2021 it turned out that he was wearing a police uniform and shot with a machine gun at the door of the house of Edison Begaj in the village of Kaninë.
Begaj is a character of the world of crime in Vlora, who at the time of the shooting, was in the company of his two minor children in the car.
The perpetrator of the crime, Mitri Prifti, and the injured Edison Begaj, turn out to be closely related.
It is suspected that the cause of the conflict was exactly the family disagreements between them.
After the incident, the priest quickly left Albania, but in September 2021, the police located and arrested him in Italy, extraditing him afterwards.
Meanwhile, just a few days after the assassination, in June 2021, Edison Begaj was arrested by the Vlora police with a pistol in his belt.
But just two days later, the city's prosecutor's office ordered his release from prison, assigning the security measure "house arrest", due to custody of two minor children.
Edison Begaj was found guilty and sentenced by the court of Vlora to 6 years of imprisonment for possession of a weapon without a permit, which the court converted to probation./OraNews
