Fuga announces his candidacy, opposite Gjinushi, for the head of the Academy of

Academician Artan Fuga has confirmed that he will run for the president of the Academy of Sciences.

In a reaction on 'Facebook', Fuga has responded to the interest related to this issue, while adding that he tried for another model without any personal interest.

We remind you that the Academy of Sciences is headed by Skënder Gjinushi. Skënder Gjinushi was announced as the president of the Academy of Sciences after the elections that were held on May 24, 2019.

Gjinushi received 35 votes in favor and 6 against, while his mandate ends this year. The former chairman of the Social Democratic Party was the only candidate for chairman in the elections for the Academy of Sciences.

For the first time after the legal changes of 2008, the well-known writer Ismail Kadare also voted in these elections, through electronic mail.

While the academician Artan Fuga was not present, stating that the elections were in complete contradiction with the regulation provided by the academy.

Yes, I'll run!
Friends, journalists, well-wishers have often asked me: Why don't you run for the position of president of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Albania?
So far I have not answered them, out of courtesy but also because I have never had it as an objective before.
I tried another model without any personal interest!

But, currently I say that it is still too early for formalized candidacies.
Meanwhile, for these three objectives that I never abandon:
1. To resist against the irresponsible and politically amoral enterprise of any used and worn-out deputy, for years, who seeks, pushed by various lobbies, to change the law on the academy by making the leaders her for life, no longer limiting their office to one term, even after 75 years,
2. To continue to promote my model for a real academy of sciences, according to Western models without exception, not turned into a research institute without an axis, which duplicates other institutes, thus wasting public money,
3. To show the failures of the current model imposed by force by a handful of deputies whose whereabouts are unknown today, imposed by politics,
yes, for these three objectives I do not rule out running at all!
And today, although it is probably still too early to consider it an irreversible decision, I am convinced that I will do it!

SI IU OPENS THE WAY FOR GGINUSH TO BE RE-CANDIDATE
Meanwhile, Majoranca has opened the way for Skënder Gjinushi to be re-elected as head of the Academy of Sciences with a second term, immediately after the end of the current term. A group of deputies have proposed changes to the 2019 law "On the Academy of Sciences in the Republic of Albania".
Article 11, in point 10, determined that "The chairman, vice-chairman, scientific secretary and heads of sections can be re-elected in the same function for two mandates, but not consecutively". With the proposed change, point 10 of article 11 becomes, "The chairman, vice-chairman, scientific secretary and heads of sections can be re-elected to the same function for two terms", where as you can see, the phrase has been removed, but not consecutively.
