Still without returning to Fier prison, where he will have to spend the remaining months of his two-year prison sentence for the charge of "corruption in elections", Fredi Beleri has made the next move to gain freedom.

The youngest Greek MEP has addressed a request to the Court of Fieri asking for bail.

The first session to examine this request of Beler was held on July 17, but was postponed due to the absence of the Fier prison lawyer. The latter did not appear in court, even though he was aware of the time and date of the trial.

Referring also to the time of detention, Beler has about 2.5 months left in prison from the measure of punishment, while he is currently outside the bars of the cell using the 5-day leave granted by the Special Commission in the Directorate of Prisons.

The permit was granted to the former elected mayor of Himara after the request of the defense party to give him the opportunity to be sworn in on July 16 in the European Parliament as a member of the European Parliament from the ranks of the Greek governing party, "New Democracy".

Fredi Beleri received the permit after his sentence has become final and he has served more than 5/6 of the prescribed sentence. Thus, for Beler there was no legal obstacle to obtain the permit that allowed him to be present at the parliamentary session that started in Strasbourg on July 15 and ends the next day.
