NAME/ Cancer takes the life of the 18-year-old Albanian, her touching letter: I
Gerta Allushi

An 18-year-old Albanian girl died in the prime of her youth, due to an incurable disease. It is about Gerta Allushi, a girl who continued to smile, even when the challenge became difficult.

She died at the Burlo Garofolo hospital in Trieste. Of Albanian origin, she was born in Italy and lived in Tauriano with her mother Alma, father Arbe and sister Ana, whom she left today with an unimaginable void.

A student at Grigoletti High School, despite the tumor that discovered her in 2018, she continued to attend online classes until the beginning of December because she wanted to graduate at all costs.

Although only 18 years old,  il Messaggero  delivers a letter from Gerta that needs no comment.

"One thing for which I have often been scolded by my family and loved ones, but for which at the same time I am praised is the fact that I continued to study and do what I always did, at every moment of the illness, even in the most difficult ones. I always thought it was the only choice I had, in the end I told myself, I'm a teenager, what else can I do. I didn't want in any way to feel different, or simply to be seen as a sick girl, even though I was."

"Now that I think about it, I could have easily put it all on hold because I had so much to think about and suffer from. But what would be the point? I would have simply closed in on myself and let the disease get the best of me, punish me and imprison me. So I continued to live my life as usual, to study, to meet my friends, to explore every possibility of activity that was offered to me, albeit with some limitations. If I hadn't done this, I would have deprived myself of many moments, acquaintances and experiences that changed me as a person and my perspective on things."

"That's why I think that one choice I made, which gave me the opportunity to be free, was precisely to live the life I would have lived if I hadn't been sick and not to allow the disease to condition me. I can't say that everything has been simple, even on occasions I have exerted myself more than necessary, but when I think about it, I say that it was worth it. I decided to be free, to exist and to live despite the disease".
