23 people serving sentences in UK prisons were extradited this Thursday in Tirana. British media report that they were serving sentences combined with more than 72 years in prison in English prisons.

Among the 23 deported "Albanian criminals" were reportedly a pedophile, a kidnapper and a drug trafficker. The deportee group also included members of organized crime gangs and an individual without the right to reside in the UK.

According to British media one of the individuals on board the plane was sentenced to 18 years for supplying cocaine worth more than 2 million pounds, while another, who was part of an organized crime group, was sentenced to more than 10 years behind bars for cocaine trafficking.

Another deportee was sentenced to three years in prison for attempting to have sex with a child, while another was sentenced to four years in prison for kidnapping and actual bodily injury.

Speaking about the evictions, Britain's Home Secretary Priti Patel said: "These individuals are responsible for some of the most heinous crimes, including rape, violent crime and serious drug offenses. They have violated our laws and values and have left their victims to live with the wounds of the crimes they have committed. This Government will use every means available to repel foreign nationals who have committed crimes against our citizens and we have recently introduced the Borders Act to help ending the cycle of last minute requests and appeals that may delay departures. ”

Last month, 190 foreign national offenders flew out of the UK on charter and scheduled flights. The Home Office says that since March 2021 more than 10,000 people have left the UK, with 85 chartered flights to 13 different countries.

This Thursday's flight was developed with the cooperation of the Albanian government.
