Gjirokastra police have initiated criminal proceedings against several people following the death of a 72-year-old woman , who is suspected of throwing herself from the terrace of the Home for the Elderly in the city on March 4, 2026.

The Crime Investigation Specialists at the Gjirokastra Police Station referred the materials to the Prosecutor's Office for the criminal offenses of " Violation of occupational safety regulations " and " Abuse of office " against citizens Dorjana Demo , 50 years old, director of the Home for the Elderly, and Dhurata Zholi , 52 years old, head caregiver at the institution.

The Crime Investigation Specialists of the Gjirokastra Police Commissariat referred the materials to the Prosecutor's Office where proceedings were initiated for the criminal offenses of "Violation of occupational safety regulations" and "Abuse of office", against the following citizens: DD, 50 years old, resident of Gjirokastra, with the position of Director of the Gjirokastra Home for the Elderly and Dh. Zh., 52 years old, resident of Gjirokastra, with the position of head caregiver in this institution.

The procedural actions were carried out after the investigations conducted into the case that occurred on 04.03.2026, at the Home for the Elderly, where it was suspected that the citizen Sh. Z., 72 years old, who lost her life on 04.03.2026, during transportation to the Trauma Hospital, accidentally fell from the terrace, resulted in this citizen having thrown herself from the terrace.

Following the actions in this case, the materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office, where criminal proceedings were initiated against citizen MH, 37 years old, resident of Gjirokastra, with the duty of nurse at the Gjirokastra Regional Hospital, for failing to notify law enforcement agencies that the 72-year-old woman had lost her life, even though he was aware that investigations had been launched into the case.
