The former director of the State Police, Hysni Burgaj, was at SPAK this morning to be interrogated regarding the January 21 file.
At the time of the event, he was accused by the then opposition and even verified after he did not implement the arrest warrants issued by the Prosecutor's Office, which was headed by Ina Rama. The allegation at the time was that there were misspellings of names in the order and they were penciled in.
" I gave clarifications as a person with knowledge. I followed the law. I implemented the arrest warrants ," Burgaj told reporters, shortly after leaving SPAK.
He insisted that he had "implemented the law".
But the journalists pointed out that these orders were implemented very late (it is about at least 2 weeks). Burgaj left saying goodbye, as he did not give any other clarifications about the case.
On January 21, 2011, 4 opposition protesters were killed by the Republic Guard on the boulevard and outside the perimeter of the Prime Minister's Office. Despite the delayed arrests, investigation and court process, the defendants were acquitted, or released with a sentence far less than that sought by the prosecution.
Guardsman Agim Llupo, for the murder of Ziver Veiz, and Hekuran Deda, as well as Ndrea Prendi, the former commander of the Guard, were accused. The murder of Aleks Nika remains unsolved and the investigation is in progress, while Faik Myrtaj was one of the victims.
