Details from the assassination in Italy/ 25-year-old Albanian left drug

The decision to leave drug trafficking and start a new life with a regular job nearly cost the life of a 25-year-old Albanian in Italy.

According to investigations by Italian authorities, the young man was shot after refusing to continue criminal activity with the group he was part of.

The incident took place on the evening of July 1 in Mirano, near Venice. According to the Prosecutor's Office, the 25-year-old had found work at a construction site in Venice and no longer wanted to deal with drug sales.

This decision, according to investigators, led to a clash with the organization, which initially exerted pressure and then organized an attack on him.

Investigations revealed that this was not the first time he had been targeted. Between late February and early March, gunmen had also shot at him and his girlfriend.

To escape the bullets, the couple had taken refuge in the trailer where they lived, on the girl's father's property.

According to the reconstruction of the event, on the evening of July 1, the 25-year-old was confronted on the street by two Albanians, Luigj Makaj, 44, and Armiol Gjoka, 40, known by the nickname "Molli." Investigators suspect that Makaj was the mastermind of the assassination, while Gjoka was the person who opened fire.

When asked to stop to talk, the young man ran away. He was chased and shot at close range, with the bullet hitting him in the area between his neck and shoulder.

According to the investigation, while the 25-year-old was injured on the ground, one of the perpetrators pointed a gun at his head. The two only left after emergency services were called to the scene.

After a month on the run, the carabinieri arrested the two Albanians during an operation conducted in the early hours of the morning.

The investigation relied on wiretapping, monitoring, and analyzing telephone communications and social media.

The two arrested are accused of attempted murder and, by order of the Prosecutor's Office, have been sent to two different prisons, while investigations to fully unravel the incident continue.
