Albanian tangerines blocked, some EU countries return them at the border: High
tangerines

The European food safety system has raised an alarm over shipments of tangerines coming from Albania.

Over the past few weeks, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Italy and Lithuania, countries that have imported fruit from our country, have rejected Albanian production at the border after analysis.

Mandarins result in residues of several substances dangerous to human health and banned for trade in the EU. Specifically, high residues of the pesticides chlorpyrifos and phosmet, which as side effects have an impact on brain development in children, disorders of the nervous and endocrine systems, as well as an increased risk of heart disease and cancer, Top Channel reports.

Despite the fact that the alert, also confirmed by the European Commission, was made on November 29 and December 11 of this year, there has been no official announcement from the Ministry of Agriculture and food control institutions in the country regarding the safety or withdrawal of these products from the market.

Pesticide residues result from analyses 3 to 12 times higher than what European regulations allow, changed since September of last year.
