"1 pound beers and cheap hotels", the British "The Sun":
Vlora

Vlora, the pearl of the Adriatic and the Albanian Riviera, has become an amazing tourist attraction for locals and foreigners.

Considered the "Maldives" of Europe, the coastal city offers everything to tourists, from history to nature and blue waters. Everything, and even at low cost. Through an article dedicated to the Albanian coast, the media giant "The Sun" promotes our beaches as the most fantastic alternative to spend holidays in the Mediterranean.

"A hot spot for vacations, with increasing popularity due to cheap offers and beautiful beaches, will now be much more easily accessible for the British" - writes "The Sun", adding that with the construction of the new airport, Vlora is expected to see an influx of vacationers who prefer to relax in the blue sea.

Vlora, in Albania, is part of the Albanian Riviera, which has seen an influx of British tourists to visit this year. Currently, they have to fly to the city of Tirana and then travel for hours to get to the seaside resort.

However, Vlora International Airport is set to open in April 2024 – making holidays that much easier. The £90 million airport will have a two-mile runway and can handle up to two million passengers a year.

While it has not yet been confirmed which routes will operate from the airport, Ryanair recently announced 17 new routes to Tirana from Great Britain. Low-cost airlines may follow suit when the airport in Vlora opens next year. There has been some opposition following the construction of the Vlora airport, due to its proximity to the protected Narta Lagoon, which is home to thousands of species.

However, locals have hoped that this will help boost tourism in the area. Adriatik Sela, who lives in the nearby village of Akerni, told local media that he hopes the business will help create more jobs. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism said they chose the area because a military airstrip was previously under construction there in the 1920s, The Sun reports.

The article of the British tabloid has also been echoed by Prime Minister Edi Rama, who through a message on social networks writes that: "The media giant "The Sun" offers the British public the best of the Albanian coast, suggesting our beaches as the most fantastic alternative for holidays in the Mediterranean, moreover promoting the ease of access thanks to investments in infrastructure and soon with Vlora airport."

The Albanian Riviera has grown in popularity this summer with Brits wanting both a holiday and a beach at a lower cost. Not only are flights only a few hours away from the UK, but beer costs £1.10 and hotels start at £20 a night.

Some have even compared it to the Maldives, with the only difference being that overwater villas cost just £8, compared to the hundreds of thousands of euros to holiday in the Asian country.

A new UK airport could also reopen for the first time in a decade. Plymouth Airport was forced to close in 2011 but hopes to resume passenger flights. Manston Airport in the UK is also hoping to resume scheduled passenger flights for the first time in almost 20 years.
