AKSK alarm: Fraud against bank customers is increasing, beware of fake SMS and emails

The National Cyber ??Security Authority (AKSK) has identified an increase in phishing and smishing campaigns targeting bank customers in Albania.

According to AKSK, fraudsters use the name, logo and visual identity of banks to send SMS or emails that appear authentic. Through them, citizens are encouraged to click on suspicious links or provide confidential data.

The messages may claim that there has been unusual activity on the account, that the service has been blocked, or that urgent data confirmation is needed. The goal is to obtain banking credentials and financial data.

AKSK calls on citizens not to share PINs, passwords, OTP codes or card details, not to click on suspicious links and to verify any communication only through official bank channels.

If it is suspected that sensitive data has been provided, citizens are advised to contact the bank immediately.

Beware of fraud attempts that use bank identities

The National Cyber ??Security Authority (AKSK) has identified an increase in phishing and smishing campaigns targeting bank customers in Albania.

In these cases, malicious actors use the name, logo, and visual identity of banking institutions to send SMS or emails that appear authentic. Through them, citizens are urged to act immediately, by clicking on fraudulent links or sharing confidential data.

The messages often contain claims about:

?? unusual activity in the account;

?? blocking or suspension of service;

?? urgent need for data confirmation.

Their goal is to acquire banking credentials and financial data.

AKSK recommends:

?? Don't trust messages that require immediate action or create a sense of urgency.

?? Never share your PIN, password, OTP code or card details via SMS, emails or phone calls.

?? Verify any communication only through your bank's official channels.

?? Carefully check the page address (URL) before clicking on a link.

?? If you suspect that you have provided sensitive data, contact the bank immediately and follow its instructions.
