Municipal Police, State Police and IKMT were seen this afternoon with their forces around the "Air Albania" stadium in Tirana as part of the action to free public spaces.
Their focus is on the subjects outside the stadium which have chairs and tables placed outside.
How did the issue of public spaces start?
In the first days of July, Prime Minister Edi Rama made a surprise visit to the municipality of Vlora, demanding the dismissal of the directors in this municipality for incompetence, which was mainly related to what he later described as the occupation of public spaces.
During the visit, Rama called on outgoing and elected MPs and local leaders to go out into the field and provide solutions to citizens' problems, meeting them up close.
He also gave them an ultimatum to have a report on the work done ready within two weeks.
Meanwhile, on July 8, Rama requested the resignation of the directors of the municipalities of Fier and Durrës, in institutions that, according to him, have not fulfilled their duties.
He is also reported to have expressed harsh criticism of the management of occupied public spaces.
Also in these first days of July 2025, an action began in the tourist village of Theth in the north of the country to demolish unauthorized buildings.
In this case, Rama accuses prosecutor Elsa Gjeli of refusing to open a criminal case against a businessman reported by the State Police for building an entire tourist village without any permit.
He emphasized that the Theth Valley will be cleared of concrete and returned to its previous state.
Rama has also stated that he has asked the Ministry of Justice to submit a request to the High Prosecutorial Council for her dismissal.
