Every day, new divorce files are opened in the Durrës court.
Around 500 requests for marriage dissolution have been filed so far, while the year is not over yet. A year ago, 727 were registered.
Among them are fictitious marriages that are entered into solely for legal gain.
"A large part are marriages of a fictitious nature, which have to do with the benefits of the law, the Family Code, Article 57 thereof, where they enter into a marriage to ensure a change of surname, to travel abroad," says Kreshnik Poga, a lawyer.
According to lawyers, urgent intervention in the law is needed to curb this phenomenon. Meanwhile, other factors that lead to divorce are mainly social.
"They are mainly new marriages that end quickly without or with minor children that bring serious consequences. The main cause of separation is not mainly economic, but relationships with other family members that interfere with the couple's relationship. There is also domestic violence...", the lawyer adds.
"The way you grow up and the lack of education that is complete in everything," says a citizen.
"In Kosovo, there are fewer, but they are growing there too. There are many factors," says another.
The influence of social media is also seen as a problem in communication between partners, but what is the key to staying together?
-"Mutual respect, sincerity."
-"Respect from me for my partner and he more for me."
– "Live reality, not Instagram," says one couple.
As divorce requests increase and the court becomes overloaded, citizens and experts emphasize that more education about couple relationships and fewer illusions from social media will keep the institution of marriage afloat.
