Since its creation in 2016, Tik Tok has found widespread use among Albanians.

The online website "World Population Review" shows the number of Tik Tok users in 157 countries around the world for 2024.

According to the ranking, there are 1.5 million Albanians with a TikTok account, ranking our country second in the region after Serbia with 2.3 million users and leaving behind Croatia with 1.1 million users.

North Macedonia has 754,000 users, while our other neighbor Montenegro has 286,000. The Albanian government's proposal to close this platform for 1 year has generated strong debates for and against.

And in fact, this proposal comes from Prime Minister Edi Rama, who ranks first among politicians in Albania on Tik Tok, for the number of followers on this platform with over 137,000 and 2 million likes.

DP Chairman Sali Berisha, who opposes the closure, has around 60,000 followers on Tik Tok.

New parties oppose the closure of Tik Tok, arguing that this is being done to extinguish their visibility and communication with the public. Although with a relatively low number of followers, they are effectively using this platform to disseminate their programs and positions.

Since its creation, TikTok has produced several Albanian millionaires. Through what is known as Live Games, where followers buy through bank accounts and send "gifts", one of them, Aleks Visha from Kuks, has claimed to have earned $20 million in three years.

Top Channel writes that "while Albanian TikTok is filled with extremely violent insults and threats that have produced victims, in recent weeks an Albanian former convict in England named Fabiol Kuçi, known as Gucci, with accounts of suffering while serving his sentence in 42 different English prisons, has become a TikTok phenomenon for the moment."

During a TikTok Live appearance, Guci managed to be followed by 80,000 followers, breaking every record held so far by an Albanian on this platform.

32-year-old Fabiol Kuçi, through this dizzying audience of followers, recounting details from his imprisonment and long stay in isolation rooms, since he was 16 years old, conveys every evening, advisory messages to young people, especially those in England, on staying away from the world of crime.

"Go in and stay locked in the bathroom for 24 hours and then you will understand the importance of freedom," said the young man originally from Vlora in one of his Live appearances on Tik Tok.

Honest and original stories, far from abusive language, have turned Fabiol Kuçi into the most followed and beloved Albanian on this platform in recent weeks, a platform which it seems will not be used in Albania starting next year.
