Lionel Messi has spoken about his career and future. In an interview with "Simplemente Futbol", the Argentine star admitted that he has started thinking about next year's World Cup.

Among other things, Messi also spoke about coach Pep Guardiola and the work he did at Barcelona at the time.

According to him, the Catalans' play with Guardiola may have harmed football, as many others tried to copy him.

"I would be lying if I told you I wasn't thinking about the 2026 World Cup. This year will be crucial to see what I decide for the World Cup. It will be important to continue playing consistently. Last year I started well, but I was stopped by injuries. This time there is no break in June because it is the Club World Cup. I will see the situation and then I will think about the objectives. I want to enjoy every day, see how I feel physically and be honest with myself.

"Pep Guardiola is from another planet. He is different from the others. He sees things that no one else can. He changed football. Everyone wanted to copy him. In fact, that may have been bad for football, because people were trying to play like our Barcelona."

Messi was full of praise for Spain's talented forward Lamine Yamal, saying the 17-year-old is doing extraordinary things and is one of the best in the world. 

"What Lamine Yamal is doing is extraordinary. At this age he has become European champion with Spain. He is only 17 years old and in a development process. He will grow as a player and add other things, just like I did. Yamal has extraordinary quality and is currently one of the best players in the world."

Messi revealed that after PSG he considered returning to Barcelona, ??but that was impossible.

"My goal was to return to Barcelona, ??but it wasn't possible. We won the World Cup in 2022 and that had a big impact. I was clear that I didn't want to go to any other team in Europe. The decision to come to Inter Miami was a family decision. We came here to live a new experience.

"I have no doubt that I will continue to be competitive. This will never be taken away, because it is part of me. That is how I was raised. I like to win and compete," Messi said.
