Rodri has spoken again about the Ballon d'Or award, taking the opportunity to take a few jabs at Vinicius, who was expected to win in Madrid but finished second.
"At the moment of the presentation of the trophy, half the hall was chanting 'Vinicius, Vinicius'... however, there was respect from the public, because when I was announced as the winner, they stood up and applauded me," were the words of the Manchester City midfielder for COPE.
Then, Rodri makes the shot below the belt: "If I had voted for you, I would have put Carvajal second and Vinicius third (of course, choosing myself first). I don't mind the fact that Real Madrid was not present at the award ceremony, it was my moment and I lived it with my family. I didn't think at all about those who were absent."
Rodri then discovered the Brazilian's lack of courtesy: "Vinicius didn't congratulate me, but I didn't miss it" and added that "I wouldn't have done what Real Madrid did, by not appearing at the ceremony." The Spanish midfielder thinks he deserves the 2024 Ballon d'Or: "I thought I could have won it last year after the excellent season with Manchester City (which culminated in the Champions League victory, translator's note), but I think I still did better last season".
