Messi kisses the World Cup in Qatar

The captain of Argentina, the reigning world champion, has declared that the edition of Qatar last December was the last in his career.

Lionel Messi's long and successful career with the Argentine national team, recently completed with the missing trophies, the Copa America and the World Cup, has an official expiration date as of today.

The world football star has spoken to the Chinese media 'Titan Sports', where he revealed that he has no plans to participate in the 2026 World Cup, which takes place in Canada, the USA and Mexico.

"The World Cup in Qatar was the last for me", Messi said.

"After winning the World Cup, which was what I was missing, I am satisfied and grateful for the career I have had and this is the most important thing for me," added Messi.

Farewell to the global competition with a won final would be a fabulous epilogue.

However, number 10 leaves a small glimmer of hope when it says: "let's see how things go..."

Messi is in China with the Argentine team, where he will play the last two friendlies before the World Cup qualifiers, against Australia in Beijing next Thursday, and against Indonesia in Jakarta on June 19.
