Lionel Messi remains a hot topic at Barcelona. A little more than two years have passed since the Argentinian expressed his desire to leave the Blaugrana and his name is being mentioned again in the Catalan environment. The Spanish newspaper "El Mundo" has revealed Leo Messi's requests to renew his contract in 2020, with Jose Maria Bartomeu in the presidency.

According to the newspaper, the Argentine asked for a bonus of 10 million euros just to sign. He also asked for a private area at the Camp Nou stadium for his family and that of Luis Suarez, an annual private jet flight for the whole family to Argentina and to recoup with interest the cut in wages due to the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the 34-year-old had asked for another condition that would allow him to leave the Spaniards. To break the contract, Messi would be free for a symbolic clause of 10 thousand euros.

El Mundo claims to have had access to emails and document exchanges between Jorge Messi (Pleshti's father), the family's lawyers, those of the club and former president Bartomeu.

The conditions are defined as "brutal" and are listed in detail:

– Contract expiring on June 30, 2023 with the possibility of unilateral extension by the player;

– 20% salary reduction in 2020/21, 10% recovery in 2021/22 and another 10% in 2022/23, with 3% annual interest;

– Payment of loyalty rewards still awaiting collection with interest;

– Private lodges for the Messi and Suarez families;

– Private flight to Argentina at Christmas for the whole Messi family;

– Payment of deferred amounts in the 2020/21 season plus interest in case of contract termination;

– Bonus of 10 million euros for the firm in the contract;

– Salary increase in case of tax increase;

- Reduction of the termination clause up to 10,000 euros;

– The renewal of the contract of Pepe Costa (collaborator of the club, who has become almost a personal assistant of Messi over the years);

– The club's commitment to pay Rodrigo Messi (Pleshti's brother) all the commissions owed to him.

The rest is history. The deal was never reached and Messi left Barcelona when his contract expired after more than 20 years at the Blaugrana club. The official farewell was made on August 8, 2021, in a press conference marked by his tears.
