"Take that cup by order of Peaky Blinders." We do not know if these words were used by members of the famous Birmingham gang to complete one of the greatest thefts in English history but from a distance of 120 years we can build the itinerary and stages followed to steal the FA Cup trophy acquired by Aston Villa in 1895.

The FA Cup final was played on April 20, 1895 at Crystal Palace Stadium "Selhurst Park" between West Bomwich and Aston Villa where the latter won with a goal that held the record for 114 years as the fastest ever recorded in the final of a cup in England.

Although still a young club, Aston Villa won it for the second time and after the success the executives decided to advertise the trophy in the city of Birmingham. The trophy was on display at a William Shillcock sports shop on Newtown Row, the street that connects downtown Birmingham with Villa Park Stadium.

On the night between September 10 and 11 a group of people entered the store and stole it without leaving any trace. The owner of the store and the Aston Villa club asked for a long time and even set a reward of 10 10 for anyone who provided information, but without success. The matter was closed and Aston Villa asked the federation to reproduce the cup.

However, doubts remained. Who had taken the cup? A few years later it was revealed that one of the gang members was John 'Stosher' Stait, who had taken part in the cup robbery. This was confirmed in their testimonies by his grandchildren or relatives.

The stolen trophy is the only original specimen missing in the long history of the planet's oldest football event. The cup was never found, but Aston Villa continues to proudly advertise the copy reproduced a few years later by the federation.
