The chairman of the Albania Becomes Movement, Adriatik Lapaj, declares that his political force will support Florian Binaj's candidacy for mayor of Tirana.
In a post on social networks, Adriatik Lapaj writes that they had previously announced that due to the circumstances in which these elections are being held, the candidacy for the new mayor of Tirana should come from the ranks of engaged citizens and not from agreements between political parties.
"Two days ago, we proposed that the candidates for municipalities in these elections, due to the extraordinary situation, should come from the ranks of engaged citizens and not from agreements between political parties. We declared that we would support one of the independent candidates who would declare their candidacy in these elections. Expressing our appreciation for all those who have declared, the leadership of the "Albania Becomes" Movement has decided to support the independent candidate Florjan Binaj in the Municipality of Tirana. This decision is based on our good will and the conviction that Albania is worth more than the party," says Lapaj in a Facebook post.
Binaj was previously part of Albania Becomes.
The November 9 elections will take place in 6 municipalities in the country: Tirana, Mat, Cërrik, Berat, Vlorë and Tepelena.
Most attention is focused on the Tirana elections, following the dismissal of Mayor Erion Veliaj, who has been in detention since February of this year.
