Prime Minister Edi Rama held a joint conference with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who visited Tirana today.

During his speech, Rama revealed the topics on which he spoke with the president of the EC, where, among other things, he said that he talked about the Summit that the EU will hold in December in Tirana with the leaders of the Western Balkans.

Rama praised Ursula von der Leyen for the help given to Albania, as he gave the news of the Tirana-Durrës railway, which, according to him, will be ready in the spring of 2024.

"The sensitivity known as the Minister of Defense towards this area of ​​Europe, the Western Balkans, has been emphasized even more and has become more tangible with the direction of the Commission. We are aware that thanks to you personally we have had even greater support than we would have had after the catastrophic earthquake a few years ago, we are aware that even in this situation, again thanks to the approach of the Commission towards the Western Balkans and yours personally, again we are not alone. So I want to thank the president for this stop in Tirana, we were together to see the works of the new railway finally in this case not because of the bureaucracy of the Commission, but of the European Bank for Construction and Development, the project has started later than the forecast, in the spring of 2024 we will have the railway axis, Tirana-Durrës,

Today's meeting has a special value after the President has informed us about the situation in the conditions of a war where there are bombs and wounds in Ukraine, but the consequences are shared throughout Europe, including us with the stratospheric prices of energy prices and inflation.

I informed him about our approach, about the determination to support families and small businesses in all ways so as not to affect the price of energy, significant weight for the budget, reasonable weight. We have talked a little but we will meet again for an extraordinary event for Albania, the first in history on December 6 when in Tirana we will have the EU summit with the Western Balkans and the European leaders will come to Tirana. We became the scene of a European football final at the end of the first half of the year and now the scene of a European political event. There are two events that until a few years ago no one could imagine", said Rama.
