Tirana Mayor Erion Ionihas made the identity of the country's new President, as procedures for Ilir Meta's successor begin in the Assembly mid-this month.
The president spoke of the need for the President's figure to be on the sides, in the service of citizens, not conflict and guardian of the Constitution. This profile, according to him, was best viewed by President Alfred Moisiu.
"Very soon we will have to think about the next President of Albania. I've heard the debates that take place today in television studios, or even within our parties, to find the identity of the next President.
One says it must be like this, the other says it should be like that, to be this age or that age, but in the end everyone has one in common: who loves the good of this country and will suggest the identity of the next President of Albania, says: he must be like President Moisiu because I believe there is an extraordinary consensus, beyond political beliefs, beyond the left and right, beyond Muslims and Christians, across the north and south, that he is the identity of the President we need. A man with roots, a man with a shaft, a spine that is in the service of the public." – said.
He made these comments on Saturday, as he was invited to the Balkan Conference for Leadership – "Youth and the Future of the Balkans", organized by the Peace Federation, led by former President Moisiu.
