In Tirana, Prime Minister Edi Rama today welcomed the plans of American company Affinity Partners and entrepreneur Jared Kushner to invest in Albanian tourism.

Mr. Kushner, the son-in-law of former President Donald Trump, published on the X network pictures of the projects he intends to implement on the island of Sazan and in the area of Zvrnec. But for the latter, the Albanian Ministry of Tourism stated that it still has no knowledge.

While he echoed the development of the tourism sector in the country, especially after the progress of last year, speaking at the Assembly of the Socialist Party which was held today in one of the coastal areas of Durrës, Prime Minister Edi Rama also spoke about the plans of announced publicly by American entrepreneur Jared Kushner.

"These days, Jared Kushner, a great American entrepreneur and son-in-law of former President Trump, publicly announced his ambition to invest in two major tourism projects in Albania. Those who told us about Montenegro for the development of tourism and foreign direct investments, today they tell us about the danger that threatens Sazan from returning to a jewel of the golden crown of tourism in the Mediterranean", said Mr. Rama.

Although he mentioned two projects, the prime minister actually stopped only to plan for the island of Sazan.

Two days ago, in an interview with Bloomberg News, the son-in-law of former President Donald Trump announced that he is planning to turn Sazan Island into a luxury eco-resort.

He also added that his company Affinity wants to develop the area of Zvrnec, near Vlora, planning the construction of several resorts with nearly 10,000 hotel rooms and villas. Mr. Kushner published on the X social network some illustrative images of the two investment projects on the coast of Albania.

In comments to the Voice of America, the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, while confirming the application of Mr. Kushner's company for the project on the island of Sazan, said that it is not aware of a project for Zvrnec.

Mr. Kushner's announcement coincides with the changes that the socialist majority approved a few weeks ago, on a version of the government for "Protected Zones", which pave the way for the construction of hotels or other projects that are considered strategic investments in them.

Mr. Rama spoke ironically to those who see a direct connection between these changes and the projects announced by Mr. Kushner, who visited Albania last year, in the company of the former American ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell.

Environmental experts note that the territory of the island of Sazan is a military zone, but it is not part of the protected natural areas, while the water perimeter around the island is part of the Sazan - Karaburun Marine National Park.

While Zvërneci, they point out, is a category 5 protected area, part of the Vjoë - Nartë protected landscape, and construction is not allowed there, because it is part of the central area.

In the latest legal changes, according to them, the government has removed sub-zoning from protected landscapes, opening the way for constructions in protected areas, while under the previous law, no construction was allowed in any protected area.

These legal changes have been strongly opposed by environmental organizations, by the opposition, who see these as custom laws. Regarding the recent changes in this law, the attitude of the President of the Republic is expected, whether he will approve them, or whether he will return them to the Assembly for review.

The Socialists seem determined to push ahead with investments in the tourism sector, attracting private capital. Prime Minister Rama did not hesitate to attack the Prosecutor's Office and the Special Court due to the blocking of a contract for an investment by two Albanian companies in the Limion naval base in Saranda, although he has repeatedly stated publicly that he does not comment on the decisions of the justice institutions. or exert pressure on them. "The absurdity reaches the point where an investment of strategic importance, nearly 200 million euros, is taken hostage by preventive seizure in the name of NATO, in Limion of Saranda, which has had a development plan for the tourist marina since the time of Zog". said Mr. Rama.

The Limioni base was placed under preventive seizure a year ago, cutting off investments in the area, as according to the Prosecutor's Office "the disposal of this property by private entities affects the readiness and operationality of the Naval Force"./ VOA
