The chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi, seems to have run out of excuses for the agreement reached by the SP and PD on the closed lists of candidates for deputies.
Bardhi has counter-attacked the critical MPs, saying that if they want open lists, they should resign and run as independents.
"Many things are being talked about in this pulpit, but not about what is the essence. Every problem that happened in the past with the Electoral Code is being brought out, referring to the concrete content of what we are discussing today. Anyone who is a lover of the vote has the opportunity to run as an independent deputy, receive votes and come to the Assembly as the will of the citizens' vote.
Second, we are being invited to reject the implementation of the decisions of the Constitutional Court, because in fact the draft that we have for voting today only provides for this.
If you were so fond of open lists, give up the mandate and leave those who received more votes than us in the last election. I cannot do this, a principle today and a principle when we sat in the deputy's chair.
Since we are principled and we want the one with the most votes to resign because there are many colleagues with more votes than us in this room.
Whoever says that the Constitutional Court has ordered that the lists be 100% open is either ignorant or lying. The Constitutional Court has abolished the quotient established in the 2020 amendments, considering it as a non-proportional number of votes for certain districts", said Bardhi.
